Question:
Should I keep appt. for consult just found out pregnant?
I am 31 mos. post open RNY and really wanted to deal with the sharpei tummy and spare tire in butt. I finally got up the nerve to call for PS appointment and just found out Thursday I'm pregnant. I know it takes a while for approval so should I go ahead and keep appt? Also does anyone know if when I have my c-section can they do the PS then? Thanks. — Sheryann Z. (posted on March 6, 2005)

Congrats on your new baby !!!!
It sometimes can happen that you could get a c/s and tummy tuck
together. The OB would do the C/S and the Plastic surgeon the TT. If it were
me and I wanted to do that I would keep the appt. However, You WILL gain
weight with pregnancy and you might not be able to get the best result
until you lose the baby weight. If you have the TT while carrying baby
weight when you do lose it you might have loose skin again. I would
personally hold out for the best result.

It might be alright for you to go ahead with your consult, but they will
not do the tt while you are pregnant. As willow said, they might do the
section and the tt together but no tt while pregnant.

I asked my surgeon back in 1998 is he could do PS after my cecerean and he
said no for several reasons: It is too tought on the body to go through
labor and then PS, after having your child would would not be able to
breastfeed if you had PS b/c of the pain and inflammation meds, and you
would NOT be able to pick up your child for a MINIMUM of 6 weeks after PS
so having that after delivery is kinda counter productive unless you have a
stay at home hubby too! LOL! HTH! Brightest Blessings to you and your
family~

I wouldn't bother with the consult. If you plan on breastfeeding you can't
really have surgery until you ween the baby. By the way.... Congrats on
the BABY! :-)

Many Drs won't due the surgeries together in case there are complications
with the delivery, post-op. If there is hemmorhaging (sp?) or something
related, you TT incision would have to be reopened. Also, your tissues,
particularly the uterus is swollen, after delivery I would imagine, and you
would not be getting an optimal result. Besides all that, the exhaustion
level would be tremendous. I'd wait. Good luck!!!

working in an OB dept, I know women can and do have tt and c/s together.
the drugs you take for pain are the same for tt and c/s and are safe for
breastfeeding. I wouldn't particularly do them together because of the
weight issues as I said below, but it is posible. All doctors do things
their own ways. My friend was offered by her ob the opportunity fot a TT
for her scheduled repeat C/S and declined as she was planning another
pregnancy and felt it would be wasted.
