Question:
I am 2 weeks post-op and have a numb/tingeling hand and fingerd? Any ideas?
I have discussed this with Dr. and we are taking a wait and see approach. It is not gettting better. I had a long 8 hour surgery. Could it be surgery imobility? Could it be from the IV? Could it be Carpal Tunnesl (symptoms match)? Any insight would be appreciated — Kevin C. (posted on October 25, 2004)

Numbness and tingling is quite common in post-op WLS patients. I've heard
of people having it in hands and fingers. For me, I had it on one leg.
Took about a month to clear up and it has to do with position and length of
time in the OR.

If your B-12 is low it can cause tingling in your hands and fingers, be
sure your surgeon does blood test.

I have heard B-12 as well. I get migranes and have numbing in my right
hand and fingers, but they are (stroke like symptoms) and my whole side
goes numb...so I doubt that its that. Sounds like B-12 issue. Have them
check your labs :)

Hi Kevin!
I have my ring finger and pinky of my left hand that are tingly and numb
99% of the time. I also have a section of my right thigh that has no
feeling to it. I am 8 months post op and down 157lbs (20 from goal) and it
has slowly gotten better but I doubt it will ever go away completely. Best
of luck to you!

Just wanted to put my two cents in....I had a similar problem, although my
face felt that way too. I went to the ER and they did lab work and found
out my calcium was too low. When they run your labs have them check that.
At Mayo in Rochester, MN they have you take Tums Ultra...2 a day...so the
ER bumped me up to three or four a day, it depends on if the feeling comes
back. Good Luck!
