Question:
at what step in the process do you do the 24 hour unrine test
I just got the referral from my PCP, and she ordered up a bunch of test. The Lady at the lab already gave me the huge jug to fill up with urine. I'm not sure when i need to do this though because i thought this test was something that you do once you've already been approved for surgery. I thought it was a test they needed right before the actual surgery. Am I wrong? — QwnBee2007 (posted on July 25, 2004)

I never had to do a 24 hour test. You might ask you doctor or her nurse
why this test was ordered.

They could be screening potential patients for drug use or just screening
for regular medical stuff like blood in the urine, diabetes, etc. What
comes out in the urine reveals alot about the patients health and
habits/lifestyle.

Pre op tests are different for each individual. They depend on your
medical conditions that are known and suspected as well as a host of other
indications from your PCP and surgeon. I'd definately talk to my Dr about
what this test is and why you're doing it. Good luck to you.
