Question:
Low Blood Pressure on Top
Good Morning Beautiful People!!! I have a quick question. Does anyone know what it means when your top portion of your blood pressure is very low. Mine was 89, is that too low? I have been feeling a bit dizzy and light headed, somedays. Thanks in advance!! Colleen K ~~278/128/118??~~ — wildchild (posted on June 29, 2004)

Yes it would seem your top number is low. Are you on blood pressure meds?
They just took me off of mine since I was feeling dizzy and lightheaded
and fainting. My numbers were 110/50. I would call your pcp right away
and if you are taking bp meds stop until you talk to him. That's what I
did.

Mine has been as low as 80/40. I've complained and no doctor seems to care.
Mine drops low when I stand up. I can't count the number of times I thought
I came close to "winking out". (No guy wants to "pass
out", that's not masculine. lol). I'm 3+ years post op... still have
little energy and worry about winking out. Do call your doctor, and also
there is a possibility your potassim could be low too. If so, that is VERY
dangerous. It's fine to ask advice from us here WHILE you are WAITING to
see your doctor... but DO see your doc. ;)

Salt will raise it. We tend not to eat as much salt after wls.

I have had this problem frequently in the past. What worked great for me
was to drink a cup of beef bouillion every day. This added enough sodium to
my diet to be beneficial. I would use the cubes and dissolve them in the
hottest tap water I could get. Then it was ready to drink sooner. It
actually tastes pretty good!! I would give it a try. It really helped me.

I was told that both caffine and salt will do it. I drink TONS of caffine,
That has'nt helped. I don't care much for salt, but I tried that too. NO
HELP. Perhaps it will help others but it sure did'nt raise my BP.

I have extremely low blood pressure as well. The nurse at my consultation
had to take mine 2x because she didn't think the reading she got was
correct (mine was 79) I found that if I have my bp taken before I've
eaten, it will read really low, and I also get dizzy if I stand too
quickly, or eat sugar first thing in the morning. I guess I always thought
the low bp/low blood sugar went hand in hand. None of my Dr's have said
it's a bad thing, just something that makes me watch what/when I eat. Not
really an answer, I know...but I definately understand where you're coming
from. :)

Hi,
I would honestly say that you need to worry about the bottom number
also.for instance if your blood pressure is
89 over 40 your still okay as long as both systolic and diastolic are not
clashing together within 15 numbers of eachother.
but your okay don't worry my blood pressure has been 95 over 40 and I was
fine and I want to stress that when you get anxious and scared it will
cause your blood pressure to go high or low depending your state of mind.So
take it easy!! and also just to let you know (eg:) when you are taking your
blood pressure and let's say that it is normal 125 over 70 and suddenly it
drops to 89/45 or any number where your systolic pressure is below 100 (
top number) then something might be going on and you should call your
Doctor. So take care you also might be anemic as far as the dissiness goes
you should really bring this up to your doctor. They might need to run a
CBC (Complete Blood Count)
just to make sure your not off balance somewhere.
Well Hope you feel better........Diana
