I'm doing the exact same thing. I'm only up 4 lbs but can't get a grip on the carbs. I'm literally watching the scale go up daily by .5 lbs. I'm so disgusted with myself and it's ruining my days as I am now (once again) preoccupied with food and dieting. I'm looking forward to reading your responses. Best of luck to you!

I am losing and gaining the same 5 lbs right now. I am going back to what my nutritionist recommended which was 5 hours of cardio a week + 30 mins of weight training 3x a week.

Welcome to the club:( If you read the very end of my long winded profile you will see I had the same problem... I got up to 205 but now weigh about 188. You MUST be diet complaint and exercise to avoid regain and keep it off. I got a part time job 2 nites a week stocking shelves at a grocery store not for the money but the exercise. Unfortunately business is off theire dramatically so I quit, so people who really need the bucks can get my hours and make a bit more $$. That along with knocking off the junk food and accepting the fact that hunger doesnt kill me. Its better to be mildly hungry occasionally than get fat again. Its a daily struggle I still eat some junk in limited quanties. Always a chocolate eater I accidently found a satisfying rich low cal chocolate drink after mixing plain water with sugar free cook and serve pudding mix. Although it all carbs its low calorie and gives me my chocolate fix:) I am going to get some tasteless protein powder and try adding that so its a bit more healthy. WLS is ut a couple hour operation, getting and staying normal weight takes the rest of our lives. I DONT want to be part of that 50% regain at 5 years...

I, too, am struggling with weight gain. I had asked my close WLS friends for help. I still, after 2+ years do a protein drink every morning. I try and stay drinking most of the day except at meal time. I have curbed my grazing all day. I eat a protein bar for lunch and then I have 'real' food for dinner. I am not perfect, and don't claim to be but I'll be damned if I am ever going to wear a size 24 again! The protein drinks, salads and water sound like you are on the right path. Add some grilled chicken (or another protein) to your salad. Good Luck! Diane

In roaming through your profile, I note that in January, you said you needed to gain ten pounds to get to goal weight and were wearing size 2-4 and looked skinny. I am wondering if perhaps this weight gain you had is necessarily a bad thing. IF you've lost food control and don't exercise (or have quit exercising), THEN you have some stuff to get back in order. IF you're doing fairly well, please do not embark once again on a "diet" of nothing but protein shakes and salads, which for some of us would lead to resentment, binging, and falling ever farther off of (or away from) "the wagon."<P>The objective here is to establish a realistic lifestyle you can life with, in terms of eating and exercise. The number on the scale should follow that, not dictate it. The notion that you are not putting your weight back on is an alarming one, understandably. But there is a whole lot of grey area between where you started, and the underweight (apparently) number you landed at for awhile. Find somewhere "healthy" to park on the scale, and then find how you can stay there reasonably, without resort to the old tried-and-true paths to failure so characteristic of our disease (obesity): deprivation, dieting (meaning, eating habits you can't maintain for life), or self-recrimination.<P>This is a lifetime project. Good luck! ;-)

I am 4 years out and go up 8 and down 8. The way I take it off is Atkin's for 2 wks. I lose a pound a day. There is no mystery why I go up, its the grazing and junk! But I've found that since I can't be 100% all the time, Atkin's will bring me back down. I figure I can do it for 2 wks. Best of luck!

I'm 3 years out and have a 10 pound roller coaster. The South Beach Diet works for me. Lots of low fat protein and "good" carbs. :-)

Please get back to basics with your eating, water and exercise. I gained some weight back at 2 years post-op and thank God, stopped myself from getting out of control. I strongly recommend eating real foods instead of just shakes. Otherwise you'll be way too hungry. My profile tells more...Diane N Good Luck! ww.WeightlossSurgery.ws
