Question:
has anyone experienced bad gas pains after surgery?

I am 4 months post op, I stay away from gassy foods, but I have the worst gas pains in the world, I am always burping, but the pain comes right back. I practically live off Gas-X. Do anyone know of anything else that is safe for us to take to relieve gas pain. I had Open Lap. thanks in advance    — jimnetta N. (posted on April 28, 2004)

Another thing you might do is simply move around a lot. I'm over 5 months post-op and had very little pain after surgery, but what pain I did have was relieved best by walking. Nothing very strenuous, just walking. I was astonished that it worked so well. Sounds like you're doing the right things otherwise. Best of luck. Lap RNY 11/13/03, -75 lbs.

This might sound funny, but in addition to moving around a lot during the day, do it at night, too when the gas is really bad. It seems to me my gas is often worst at night when i've been in one position for a long time. It all seems to gather in one spot! When I make a conscious effort to turn as often as consciousness allows, the pain is eased quite a bit.

My surgeon told me to take Maalox, Zantac or Tagament and I chose Maalox. It didn't work. I then went to my PCP and he prescribed Prevacid because I was also gagging and dry heaving along with having the gas problem. I started feeling much better the day after I started taking the Prevacid. I guess all of the symptoms were all tied in together. Hope you're feeling better soon.
