Question:
Any one experience a weight gain that you know is not attributed to improper diet?
I am 7 mos out and have been steadily losing weight (no real plateaus thus far). However, my weight loss does follow a pattern: substantial loss (5 or so pounds) after my period and then a pound or two each week after until the week of my period when I might stay the same or go up a pound or two. At the beginning of month 7, I had lost 10 lbs by my scale (total loss 86 lbs), then all of the sudden I was up 8 lbs. I thought maybe my scales had gone haywire, so I went to the doc's to weigh, and, sure enough - I only lost 2 lbs last month. I know it is not "true gain." I would've had to eat 28,000 more calories than my body processed, and that just isn't happening. I haven't really had the temptation to "cheat" (no sugar AT ALL) - I've followed the program: water, protein, exercise - the only carbs I take in are from veggies, a couple of melba toast rounds or I occasionally eat half a protein bar (I don't do fruit - it hurts my stomach). I'm trying to severely reduce even those carbs to see if it has an effect and restarts the loss. I know I'm not done losing, but I guess I just want reassurance from someone else who might've had a similar experience. Anyone else experience this? — Debra R. (posted on April 6, 2004)

This is similar to how I lose in general. I drop down to a weight, ie. 242
then I spend the next month trying to get back down to 232, then I drop
down to 232 and spend that month up and down trying to get down past that
number.
I'd weigh in once a month. That way you don't worry about the in between.

That is exactly how I lose weight too, I wrote about it in my profile. If I
lose three pounds, the next day I'll be back up 2.5, then it takes me about
a week to get back down to the three pounds. Screwy but I saw this early
on and although I weigh everyday just to keep me focused, I do not worry
about it. I'm a little over six months out and haven't lost anything for
over a week but I know I'm not done yet and I don't think you are either.
Usually, rather than reducing something, I add something like maybe some
fruit or an extra small meal or some extra exercise and so far, it has
worked. It seems that our bodies get used to our routines and they settle
into a routine themselves and sometimes, we just have to do something out
of routine to shake 'em up again and get 'em going. Good luck to you and
congratulations on a super achievement.

The same thing happened to me. I thought that the surgery had failed. It
turned out that I was diagnosed with PCOS. Here is a link to take a quiz
to see if you may have it also:

I am being treated by a great Endocrinologist. I am now taking medication
and the weight loss has started again. I hope that you don't have it, but
if you do, you need to know. Good Luck! Allison
