Question:
WIll I be on an IV forever?? This is a nightmare!

I am 1 year out. My labs came back and I was put on an iron IV once a week and also receive a weekly B-12 injection. I took my vitamins, calcium, and iron religiously. My hemmotologist tells me this may be a permanent thing because I can no longer absorb. I was never told this could happen. Is there hope to get back on supplements?    — mamajulie (posted on March 25, 2004)

I have just finished up my Iron IV treatment. I had three treatments of 1000 mg. I feel great!!!! I feel much better than I have. Being my iron was so low, I really did not feel a difference in my energy levels once the weight started coming off. Anyway, once my iron storage starts to come down, I am going to try a liquid iron supplement and see if that helps. I put one of my iron tablets in a glass of warm water for a half hour and it did not desolve one bit. I don't really have an answer to your question since I'm in the same boat, but just wanted to let you know that you're not alone. Just hang in there!

I just posted a similar question! If you look back at the last 300 questions, on day 3/22 (I was #66 but it changes) you may want to see some of the responses I received... quite encouraging! I'll be getting my 1st IV iron treatment 4/2. Lap RNY 7/11/03 231/143

I don't know if this will help, but I too had low iron. I was told to take supplements 3 times a day with vit. C. I am not a good pill taker, so I shopped around for other sources..............Grape Nuts!!! 1/2 cup is 90% iron. I started eating some in the morning and some at night. My iron levels are .5 below the average now. I like mine with half and half, and splenda. Its like eating dessert. Hope this helps. RNY 2-5-03 289/160

Dont have an answer toyour question.. BUT wanted to post since one of the posters stated about their iron pill. Bariatric Advantage has a GREAT iron pill .. its 'chewable' and it tastes GREAT.
