Question:
Did having your gallbladder removed help your gas?
I don't think I've seen this asked here before and it is a situation that I am currently dealing with. I had a scan of my gallbladder and it showed small stones and sludge. While I am not having excruciating pain or nausea, I do have a constant "tenderness" in that area. However, I have extremely bad gas and odor. I have been told that a bad gallbladder will sometimes cause this. But I also know that just by having the RNY can cause the bad gas/odor as well. My question is this... Is there anyone out there who post op WLS had bad gas and odor, then had their gallbladder removed? Did this help the gas? I really need to know any experiences post op gallbladder removal that pertain to gas (increase or decrease). I have never heard anyone address their gas improving/worsening after gall bladder removal. I am certainly not in iminent need of having my gall bladder out, pain-wise. However, if it will improve my gas/odor, I would agree to it. But I just don't know if it will. Can any of you relate? Thanks so much. BTW- 3 years post op and loving life. Shelley — Shelley. I had my gallbladder removed about 3 months ago. Trust me, it doesn't help
out on the gas smell!!! The gas smell has to do with the RNY procedure not
the gallbladder. I can tell you that having the gallbladder out will get
rid of that tenderness and pain you've been having. It was a very easy
surgery. I had it done as an outpatient and only have 4 small incisions
from the lap procedure. I was released the same day as the surgery. I was
up and walking around with no problems in a couple of days.

Having my gallbladder after a Lap RNY didn't stop and gas problems for me -
but eliminating certain foods did. I nitoced that particular protein
supplements and bars gave me incredible "evil" gas - to the point
where my husband would literally not sleep with me. I am not joking.
Although I can, and have to, drink soy milk, I cannot tolerate protein bars
with soy nuggets, like Strive bars (which I like the most)...

To be honest, gas is more of a problem for me since WLS than it ever was
before - products like Beano and Gas-X are pretty helpful. Having my
gallbladder removed helped for the gallbladder attacks, but did nothing for
gas - not what it is for. Good luck to you.

Well, seems I am the only one who it worked the other way! My family and I
are amazed at the changes in my bodily functions...*S* Before my rny with
gallbladder removal I had terrible gas, and constant pain and heartburn.
Now about 6 weeks post op I could pass gas and no one would ever know! It
truely is amazing....lol. All of my pre-op symptoms have disappeared. I
heard of a lot of people whos gas got worse with rny, I was worried too...I
got lucky I guess. Hopefully you will too! God Bless!

Is it smarter to have your gallbladder removed during your RNY surgery? I
have stones and they want to do it that way.
