Question:
Need some feedback

I had lap rny on october 7, 2003. My start weight was 261, I will be 4 months out on Feb 7. I have lost down to 207, total loss of 54 pounds. I can't seem to move the scale in the last few weeks. Here is a sample of my day, walk about 2 miles, for breakfast I have a carnation sugar free breakfast drink with added powdered milk( 20 grams of protein), lunch either tuna fish with egg(about 30 grams protein), afternoon a protein shake(nectar) about 23 grams and I get in my 64 ounces of water. I usually snack twice on yogurt lite, or cheese sticks. for dinner I will have a piece of chicken or fish. I do not ever eat carbs unless they are in the form of vegetables, which is rare, since I have little room and must get the protein in. CAN YOU SEE IF THERE ARE CHANGES I NEED TO MAKE OR WHY MY WEIGHT LOSS SEEMS TO BE SO SLOW, OR IS IT REALLY SLOW? THANKS,KIM    — KIM B. (posted on January 26, 2004)

Your food plan looks good to me. You're probably just expiriencing one of those nasty platues. Your body is readjusting to the weightloss...I know with me, I would go a few weeks with nothing, then all of a sudden I'd be down 4-5 lbs. Maybe this is a weight/size that you were at one time for some length of time, and your body is feeling pretty comfortable there. But, you are definately not eating enough for it to hold on to that weight for too long....it's just a matter of time. It seems like forever now, but like me, at two and half+ years post...it will feel like you lost it all in a blink. Keep up the great work...you're doing everything right, protein first, low sugar, exercise, and water....keep plugging along in that direction and you will be fine! Best wishes! -Kim open RNY 7/17/01 282/138/125

I think the previous poster is right. It sounds like you are doing great (especially with the protein). Just hang in there, it probably is just a plateau. I am really impressed with the protein, as I am having a hard time getting mine in. I just can't seem to tolerate it. I am only 6 weeks out, so maybe that will change in time. Anyway, you are doing all the right things, so just keep hanging. Mary

You've probably just hit a nasty plateau. Your food plan looks great. Most of the time when I've hit plateau, if I just shake my body up for a few days by increasing water and protein and varying what I've been eating, it seems to shake itself loose. If you do the same things, your body gets used to it. Gotta keep it off-balance once in a while by varying the routine.

Hi KIm, Congrats on your weight loss, thus far. My 1st plateau came at around 5 months. Sounds like your experiencing your 1st one. Since, I keep a journal I noticed at this time I was loosing inches. So you may also. Your intake of protein/water seem great. Don't stop what your doing...may try adding a different form of exercise. It will soon cease and your weight loose and inches will come off....Hang in there! Hazel 2/11/03 250/139/135
