Question:
I was wondering how much you were eating?
I am almost 7 months out RNY and I think I might be gaining. Now I cannot tell if it is water weight or if I am really gaining or if it is the unreliable scale that my mother has now hidden on me but since new years I have gained 7lbs. Here is my typical day eating, 1)morning either a piece of toast on low carb bread with peanut butter or 2/3 a low carb bagel with cream cheese, 2 2)lunch I have six meatballs with spagetti sauce or a chicken breast or a smart ones low carb dinner (I eat mostly just the meat out of it) 3)Dinner, now this can vary. Most of the time it is a smart ones low carb dinner, or some chicken, or a hamburger pattie with onions, or a salad with chicken. 4)Usually right before bed or later in the evening I have a protein drink. Sometimes I have pineapple. Now How do you tell if it is an enlarged stoma? Does it sound like I am eating too much for 7 months out? I know that if I am really concerned or it goes on to contact my surgeon but I wanted to know from some of the people who are or have gone through the same thing. I do not want to gain this weight back and I know I need to exercise more since I am not very good at it. I get around 90 oz of water a day and probably 2 cups of milk a day. Any answers would be great. 292/200/165 — horserider0146 (posted on January 17, 2004)

Alanna, I doubt with the amounts you are eating that it's possible that
you've gained 7 real pounds. I think it may be the scale or possibly water
weight. Those frozen entres can have a lot of sodium. I am 8 months out
and when I eat things like canned soups, I feel puffy and gain a pound or
so of water weight. You sound on track to me. I would get a digital scale
( a good one) and weigh yourself at the same time daily (but that's just my
opinion) to see the patterns for a while. It may be period induced. Hope
this helps. Lisa A. Lap RNY 5/13/03 291/166/150

I'd try tracking everything at www.fitday.com for a while to see how many
calories your really getting. I, too, doubt you gained 7 "real"
pounds. Those smart ones meals probably have a lot of sodium in them. And
just an FYI, for some reason when I eat more carbs I tend to retain a pound
or two of water weight. Barb 1/07/03 235/135/130

You might want to also consider that you're possibly not eating enough.
Sometimes I have to kick the calories up a bit to get the weight loss
moving again. I'm also 7 months out rny.

Are you working out? If so, remember that muscle weighs more than fat.
You could be putting on muscle. Ask your doctor to check fat verses muscle
on you.

You aren't eating enought to gain fat. I would change up the amount of
calories you eat in a day and also the amount of exercise. I also wouldn't
do a carb first thing in the morning unless you're exercising afterward.
Sounds like you are under 1000 calories a day. That's kinda low for 7
months out. I would think you'd need to be at 1200 to lose.

Back in my old WW days, I used to eat a lot of those frozen entrees, too.
They were Ok for a while, but then I stopped losing, too. My WW leader
told me not to eat so many of them, as they're loaded with sodium, and that
can really slow down your weight loss. I would try mixing it up a bit, and
eating more freshly prepared foods. It doesn't sound like you're eating
too much, either. I'm only 4+ months out, but I really believe that
getting a boost of protein in the AM has helped me a lot. I usually do my
protein shake then, since I get about 30 grams to start my day. Just an
idea! Best wishes for your continued success. Lap RNY, 9/11/03,
