Question:
Any ideas on how to get more energy?

I have NO energy. I am 5'4", lost 120lbs... down to 168..still want to lose another 30, but still happy with this. Anyway, my surgery was 3/13/02, so I am well over a year out.. my blood work is fine, so the Dr. won't give me any B-12 shots... any ideas on what to take to get energy... I feel GREAT! but just have no energy...I am even trying the new Zantrex-3 for energy. So far I can't really tell any difference. Thanks for your input! — Kay W. (posted on November 18, 2003)

You said your doctor won't give you the B-12 shots, what about taking a sublingual B-12 yourself? My doctor's program requires one a week to keep our B-12 up. If you are already doing that, what about increasing your dose to once a day? I know of others at my work who had surgery out of town and their programs call for once a day. If your labs are fine, i.e. there is nothing medically causing the fatigue, I would try that.

Kay, in your last posting on your profile you mention eating too many carbs and not enough proteon, and also note that you are not exercising. I find that the combination of too many carbs and not enough activity really makes me sluggish. If this is still the case I recommend you up your protein (use protein supplements? I do and it really helps) and get the bad carbs out of your life. The South Beach Diet way of eating is very good for us because after the first two weeks it helps you add in good carbs and know which ones to avoid. I also agree that going to a b12 every day is a good idea. Good luck! hugs, Ann rny 9/10/99 260/124

Right now while EVERYONE is offering flu shots, many times you can also get B-12 shots from these same sources. B-12 is a water-soluble vitamin, which means that if your body doesn't need it, any excess will just be excreted through the urine. I'm just now a year out, and although I don't have an energy problem, I did have a B-12 shot with my flu shot. Good luck!

First - I take B12 orally every day - it is a very small pill, about 1/4 the size of the moster calcium I take ;)
I didn't have a major enegry spurt until I forced it on myself - a friend of mine always says, "Fake it 'til you make it!"
Well, that sure worked for me. I signed up for a 2 year gym membership, bought a mountain bike, and when my car broke down, I didn't fix it. Instead I had to force myself to move my butt. Eventually the energy came, but it was not immediate.
Hope this helps, and that yours kicks in too!
-shelli
