Question:
Will I have to Have test redone?
My surgery was approved had date and everything than the insurance decides they are not gonna pay. I found out the company is switching to BCBS of NC in January. I just know we will have the Blue card plan. My question is will I have to have all my test redone the lady at the doctors office said no but, has anyone else had this problem? I have had my blood work, ekg, chest xrays, upper endoscopy, nutriction eval, psych eval, I had to pay this all out of pocket I do not have the money to go through all this again. The first pre-op requirment was done in May. If someone could answer it would help. Thanks in advance — jennie_jen (posted on November 11, 2003)

Most of these tests are only good for a certain number of days (30,60,90)
Some are good for six months but that probably really depends on your
surgeon. Mine will not take labs older than thirty days.

Check with your surgeon. Mine was willing to accept test results up to a
year old.

Most likely many can be used but bloodwork, EKG, chest x-ray will likely
have to be redone by law. Usually blood work must be done within 30 days
of surgery. However, if you have coverage through BCBS next year there is
a 90% chance all of the pre-op stuff will be covered too. Other than my
deductible and co-pay for the year I didn't pay for anything but $101 of my
anesthesia bill. I had lots of pre-op stuff too including sleep study and
Cardiolite Stress Test. Those 2 alone were about $5000. So you may be
fine from a financial standpoint.
<p>I'm with the other though, $1000 is a very cheap price to pay for
a surgery that likely goes $30-40,000. My deductible and co-pay amounted
to $2000 out of my pocket and I was happy to only have that to pay.
