Question:
anyone have hernia surgery before their TT surgery?
I am 5 months out and have a huge hernia that affects what clothes I can wear. The doc says wait until I have my TT to have it fixed, but it is driving me crazy. anyone have the hernia fixed prior to the TT. if so, how did it go? thanks — deespol (posted on November 4, 2003)

I’m not sure I will be able to have a TT, because I
don’t believe my insurance will pay for it. Anyway, three weeks
ago I have my gallbladder removed and a hernia repaired. I
didn’t even realize I had a hernia until a couple of days before
the surgery. The doctor said it took longer to repair the hernia than to
take the gallbladder out. I had 24 staples and came back to work exactly
three weeks after surgery.

I think the reason the doctor wants you to wait is it may help to have a tt
approved if you do them both together. Also, it will be good from the
standpoint of one operation instead of two. If the only concern is how you
look in your clothes, it might be better to wait. However; if the hernia
is causing pain or interfering with your health, I understand you wanting
it fixed as soon as possible. You just won't have that as a factor for a
possible tt in the future though.
