Question:
How can I reset my Dump O Meter?
I'm looking to reset my Dump O Meter - I hardly ever dump! The only adverse effects that I experience is [sorry to be graphic!] orange oily poo the next day, or diarrhea. I've only thrown up 3-4 times in the last 7 months, and I always feel like it's because I ate too much or didn't chew well enough, not because of sugar. Can I even reset my Dump O Meter if I don't dump now? I really want to! Also, I see from past posters that reseting the Dump O Meter means no sugar for at least 2 weeks. Not even milk sugar, which is what I primarily get - I eat cheddar cheese for both breakfast and lunch. Does anyone have suggestions for a no-sugar diet? I'm kind of stumped. The more suggestions, the better. Thank you! Open RNY 03/20/03 346-231-146 — vittycat (posted on October 20, 2003)

Can you actually reset something that you don't seem to have had? Some
people DON'T dump from sugar. That's just the way it is. If you were to
try- I understand it is about going back to the beginning stages after
surgery and working your way forward. So, you's start at liquid, go to
puree and on to soft for at least one week each stage. That's my
understanding. The other option is for you to go atkins induction stage
with NO sugar, NO carbs and do that for a coupe of weeks. I don't know
that any of this will work for you, but, good luck.

Dumping is not vomiting, right? Heart palpitations, extreme sleepiescold
sweats, confusion, maybe dry mouth, cold hands/feet--the miseries. The
milk is raising your sugar tolerance. Natural sugar makes no diff to our
bodies. Sugar is sugar. So, every time you have a C of skim milk, you're
downing a quick 12g of sugar (some brands have more). Cheese is ok, as it
is processed, so is cottage cheese, sour cream, cream cheese. Mainly milk
& ice cream are the lactose carriers. Most of us actually feel a
benefit in 24 hours--fewer cravings. BUT we're doing protein shakes
(powder + water) & then "sensible meals", such as meat &
veggies or just salad (with dressing). Skip the carbs (except whole grains
& veggies) for the 2 weeks. After 3 days, you will feel very different,
but you have to unbuiild the tolerance you've built. Of course, maybe you
never DID dump, but most will find they feel different after detoxing from
sugar. More in control, more likely to feel sleepy or hungry when they do
indulge. I have gained wt twice. Both times sugar, one of them was fruit.
Oddly, it was easier to go cold turkey on the Peeps (don't ask how I got
that stupid) than it was to quit fruit. I had the carb monster on my back
for 4 months. BUT then, I didn't go cold turkey, completely. I could've
ended the misery a lot sooner if I didn't live in my car half the time
& grab fast food.
