Question:
Can I still drink my protein shakes and go into ketosis?

I am very dependant on my protein shakes to get the adequate amount of daily protein. I mix them with 1 cup of skim milk, and I have 1-2 a day. My question is this- Can I go into ketosis, and still enjoy my daily shake, since milk has carbohydrates in it? I feel like this is what I need to do as I have been on a platuea for a few weeks. If anyone, who stays in ketosis, wants to share their eating regimen with me, I would really, really appreciate. I am kinda lost at what to eat. Thanks for all the help. Jan    — Jan S. yes, you can still use your protein shakes and go into ketosis. I lost 177 lbs in 12 months while using atleast one protein shake a day. Make sure they are extremly low sugar though.

Jan- Consider hitting a high protein (at least 80 grams daily) and very low carb (no more than 20 grams a day) for a few days; this is like the Atkins induction phase diet and it will jumpstart your weight loss. I use it when I haven't lost any weight for a few days and it has always worked to get me back to losing. As for the milk, try to balance the amount of carbs you are getting using it in your protein drink and consider cutting down carbs in other areas to compensate for it. Good luck.

Yes, if they are good protein products. However, the 24g of sugar in the milk might inhibit your ketosis.

95% of the time, the only carbs I take in are 'incidental', meaning that I always choose a protein source as my meal....which usually has some varying degree of carbs anyway. The other 5% of the time I choose to eat a 'mixed meal'....like a steak or chicken taco...of course, I only eat 2-3 bites of tortilla, or a few bites of pizza then just the rest of the toppings, an omlett with cheese, onion, mushroom, and roasted peppers, beef or chicken stroganoff....heavy on the meat and mushrooms and 2-3 bites of noodles, etc. And, even though exercise and I are having 'issues' right now....I would still recommend it...it will help with the ketosis and weight loss in general. Good luck!

Jan, concerning the milk sugars, I have switched to a low carb fat free milk. The brand name is Hood and it is sweetened with Splenda. I use it for all of my protein shakes and it tastes no different than regular skim milk. It only has 3g carbs per 8oz serving but still has the 8g protein like regular milk. Hope you'll try it.
