Question:
I am nearly 3 weeks post-op. My doctor says I need between 57 and 74 grams of

protein per day. I am struggling to get that much - it's more like about 45 grams. I am getting the water in though. I need suggestions for a protein drink and also am wondering if the lack of protein could be why I only lost 2 lbs this past week? Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks! Lisa    — Lisa D. It's really hard to get in that amount of protein at 3 weeks out.....My surgeon doesn't expect us to be able to meet our protein goal that early on and wants us to mainly focus on getting in the required fluid amount, which is hard enough early on.If you are getting in 45 grams you are doing awesome!

My hunch is that your surgeon is being very aggressive-- however, increased protein intake combined with minimal carbohydrates does promote rapid and healthy weight loss. At only three weeks out, the only protein drink I could stand was the Isopure Zero Carb drinks (my preference was for the Alpine flavored one); I found that the shakes were a little thick and caused me to cramp. Good luck.

I had the hardest time finding a protein drink. A friend told me about Unjury chocolate. I was skeptical because of how many I had tried but did not like. Well, Unjury is the best!! Tastes just like chocolate milk. They also sell vanilla and unflavored. I have heard great things about it from other memebers that have ordered it also. Just go to www.unjury.com They do have samples but I believe you have to email Jerome for them. His address is on the site. Also, their delivery is very quick. I ordered mine on a Friday and got it Wed. I mix one scoop with 6 to 8 ounces of skim milk which equal 26 to 28 grams of protein. Best part it is yummy!!! Good luck no matter what drink you go with!!!!

Definitly, I would suggest UNJURY like the previous poster. It is truly the best protein supplement I've found. I really enjoy the chocolate in my decaf coffee in the mornings and the vanilla in sugar free tang or any other sugar free orange flavored drink mix. The powder mixes sooooo well compared to all of the others I've tried. Good luck!

My personal faves are both chocolate (like there IS any other flavor?). I use ProScore 100 and Pure Whey Stack. Both mix easily with water (& I prefer ice), and make a small volume. Whey protein helps SO MUCH with the wt loss, but it's even more critical for maintenance, as far as appetite control down the road. I take about 180g a day in supplement. Any less and the carb monster gets his fingers on me.

It's really hard to get that much protein in this early out. At that point, I was drinking skim milk with milk powder mixed in it, for double the protein value of the milk alone. I never did take to the shake-like protein supplements. I like the Very Cherry Berry flavor of Nectar Protein mixed in with any red s/f drink (like fruit punch Kool-Aid, or raspberry Crystal Light). I also drink Rocomojo. It's a roasted soy bean "coffee" (it doesn't taste much like coffee, but I like it). Two cups of that in the morning gives me 26 grams of protein and 6 grams of fiber. Keep trying til you find something you like.
