Question:
anything I should know about esophageal ulcers?
I had my pre-op endoscopy yesterday and my surgeon found 4 small ulcers in my esophagus. I was put on Prilosec and I know that the reduction in acid will help my ulcers heal. Is there anything else I should know? Thanks. — Katherine H. (posted on September 28, 2003)

I have bad acid reflux and I had an endscopy done and found damage in my
esphogus. The good news is that with medication and controlling the acid
reflux, it can be healed.

I had gastroesophageal reflux too and I had ulcerative esophagitis found
when I had an EGD. With the meds that your doctor prescribed it should go
away. My esophagus cleared up in about a month (I had to have a second
EGD) I think they also could be caused by a bacteria called H.Pylori. If
you were positive for that your doctor would have put you on an antibiotic
to clear that up. Just take that medicine faithfully and never skip a
dose you want everything to be healthy before your surgery.

Pre-op I had severe ulcers in my esophagus and my doctor prescribed
Protonix and they all cleared up. They were caused by acid reflux and
healed up pretty quick with the medicine. Feel free to read my profile for
my experiences with this.
