Question:
Has anyone had or know of anyone who had a successful repair of a stretched stoma?

I have always had a stretched stoma since surgery though I have not had a endoscope. I could drink 8 oz right a way ect. They thought I had a leak in the hospital and I think they stretched it then when they looked or it could have just been surgically done. The Dr. wouldn't order the tests to see why I could eat and drink normally so I refused to go back to him. I researched it and found that nothing could be done so I haven't gone to another DR. I had some malabsorbtion for a while but that went away too. I'm 1 year and 9 months out and only down 60 pounds now. I'm hoping in the last year there has been some progress made.    — Candace F. Hi. I have a stretched stoma, but it wasn't from the beginning. I feel sorry for you to have had a failure from the beginning. I have also tried to figure out what I could do to rectify the surgerical failure. The only thing I can figure out is to have more of a bypass so more is malabsorbed. Have you considered that? Best of luck to you. Sherry

The guy from the TV show ED had RNY with some type of band placed around the bottom of the pouch to prevent stretching. I don't know any more than that. I would hope they would figure out something to correct this problem.

I've brought several relaxed stoma people to my doc. He has used different repair methods, depending on the condition/configuration of their pouches. I hope you are not blaming yourself. It's mechanical, not mental. And a heartbreaking condition. But there are fixes.

I'm beginning to think that I also have a stoma problem. I'm 5 1/2 months out and can eat a ridiculous amount. Yes, I know that as time passes we can eat more 'normally'. But this is more than just a timing issue. I would really appreciate being kept in the loop on this information as a just-in-case option. Thanks...diane
