Question:
Does anyone have a high white blood cell count and did it affect your surgery?
My white blood cell count is historically high, but the internist who works with my surgical group wants me to have a new blood test to rule out a UTI. I plan on sending her a note with the results and telling her that I always have a high blood count, it's genetic, my mom and both sisters have it also. I'm just worried that this will somehow prevent me from having surgery. Any feedback will be helpful. Thanks Laura M — Laura M. (posted on September 24, 2003)

Maybe submitting old lab results would help. If this is the case, then your
PCP should have some record of this and can perhaps include a note to your
surgeon explaining the situation. It may even be mentioned in your old
records following a high wbc result. Your PCP should have explained why he
wasn't alarmed and no treatment for an infection was initiated. I would
definitely find old lab reports and check your medical records. Good Luck!
