Question:
What can I mix my protein powders with?

I've ordered several sample protein shakes through Vitalady.com and I wanted to know what I should mix the powders with? I'm not a huge milk fan but if I had to and it would improve the taste of these disgusting shakes I would do it. I've only tried the lemonade from Vitalady and I mixed it with the lemon Fruit20 water and it didn't taste so great to me. I'm at my wits end trying to find a protein shake that doesn't smell, have a funny texture or leave an aftertaste in my mout. HELP!!! — A M. (posted on September 23, 2003)

Try using a Vanilla flavored Protien and mix it with S.F. Tang. Tastes like a cream cicle! Experiment with SF coffee flavorings like raspberry, orange, blackberry, strawberry etc. Usually with a Vanilla flavor, its more versitle than a chocolate or another fruit flavor. Also try ordering from wlssuccess.com. She's a little cheaper than vitalady. Bottom line is that is all personal taste. Hope that helps!

Me again. Try and stay away from milk! Might be too much sugar and you may be lactose intolerant and you'll dump. Plus, you don't want the extra calories.

I mixed my chocolate flavored powder with skim milk. It was the only way to make it palatable for me. I didn't experience dumping from it, thankfully!!!

Hi, I have switched all my protein powder to Unjury . They have chocolate that I can drink with plain water (and I LOVE it); and it mixes with a spoon! I just tried the unflavored in SF V-8 Splash, and it was GREAT--I couldn't even tell it was there. I also will mix the plain with 1/2 c cottage cheese, 1/2 c Lite Cool Whip, 1 teasp SF Jello, I scoop of Unjury unflavored protein mix. Let it sit in the frig a bit--tastes great!
I have put vanilla flavored in oatmeal, unflavored in soup, chocolate in SF Instant pudding. Play with it and find things that you like. I hated all the protein drinks until I found this one, but I still played around until I could find some way to get it down. Good luck!

soy sucks! well at least to me it is gritty so i stick to whey products. i use skim milk and Devita coffee drink mix (sugar free of course) with out that in my shake i would not be able to get it down. i love the mocha cappichino flavor it totally masks the protien powder taste! experiment a lot becuase your tastes might change, mine did hated coffee stuff pre op!!!!!!

I am still preop (for 41 more days!!!!!!) but I have been experimenting with the protein shake thing. I like ProBlend55 Strawberry Twist made with water and a smidge of Strawberry-Kiwi Crystal Light. It was good! (Well, not crave-worthy, but bearable!!!!) So, I am planning on trying other protein shakes (samples from VitaLady.com) with matching SF drink mixes. Hope this helps!!!!

I'm 14 months post-op and do 3-4 shakes per day, all made with water and ice as the base, all shakeable no blender required. My current favorites are 1 scoop Champion Pure Whey Stack Chocolate with 1 scoop Nectar Very Berry Cherry (Choc. covered cherry - having one right now with a splash of SF cinnamon syrup -- Really good). My "breakfast" EVERY morning is LaBrada Proplete Gold Vanilla Pineapple mixed with SF Tang & peach water (orangy/peachy/pineapply & has pineapple bits too!). I also have just Champion Pure Whey Stack Choc with SF Amaretto syrup & a splash of coffee creamer, or SF cinnamon, or SF German Choc Cake, or SF Creme De Mint -- All very tasty chocolate drinks. My last (but absolutely NOT LEAST) favorite is the new Nectar Strawberry Kiwi made with 1 tbsp coffee creamer or heavy cream. VERY strawberry-ish and very creamy tasting and VERY VERY GOOD! Sometimes it hard to decide which one to have because I have so many variations that I just really love! You just need to keep trying samples. There are so many different flavors and brands out there and so many ways to enhance the flavor. I remember when I decided to start the protein drinks I was so confused and never thought I'd ever be able to choke any down. Then I tasted the Pure Whey Stack and it's been easy for me since then. It was the RIGHT ONE for me and I've branched out from there.
