Question:
When will I be able to drink normally again?
To me this is torture having to take sips of water all day long. Before surgery I was able to drink enough to satisfy my thirst. Now, I am thirsty all the time. And I like water, but when I drink it makes me feel sick when I drink it. I have to drink warm tea (decaf of course). I hate this. When does this stop? — Marian B. (posted on September 10, 2003)

Marian: I drank normally after 6 weeks. No straws though. I can drink
6-8 oz. of water in one shot right now. I'm 5 months post-op and finally
drinking a gallon of water a day. EVERYTHING gets better in time. Trust
me (and everyone else on here)

Try Diet Snapple or broth.

Amy A is absolutely right - everything DOES get better with time! I found
cranberry juice and V-8 to be lifesavers in the early weeks after surgery -
at 7 months out I can drink anything easily and just like before surgery.
Snapple is great - some people find the flavored no-cal waters helpful
(like Fruit 2-0). Best of luck - I know you'll do great. We all have days
where we think nothing will feel normal again! Now I feel almost nostalgic
(almost!) for those early days when the weight just melted off and the last
thing I had to worry about was overdoing eating or drinking. (But don't
get me wrong - this still remains a POWERFUL tool)

This was my only complaint post-surgery. That I coulnd't get enough water
to satisfy my thirst. Low and behold, about 6 weeks later, I was cured.
You'll be OK. Love,
