Question:
How long do the staples last?
I had my open RNY 2 years ago. I have read so much about being transected and I am not. Does anyone know how long the staples can last without a staple line disrupture. I am feeling great but I am worried that I could get a staple line disrupture. What is the success rate for people who have been transected in keeping weight vs. open RNY? Thanks-Donna — Donna B. Gee could last 2 weeks, 2 years or 20+...it depends on YOUR stomach. Some
stomachs are incredibly well designed to eliminate foreign material and
will expell the staples. And just being transected is no guarantee that
your stomach won't still rebel. There have been people who've developed
fistulas (a tubular growth between pouch and stomach) in their stomachs
desire to be "whole" again. I believe, from researching, that
transected is probably better that non-transected - and wish I was! - but
it is no guarantee. The success rate for keeping weight off is no
different though between transected/non-transected, open vs. Lap. Has
nothing to do with it unless you have a SLD.
