Question:
I am 3 month's post-op and have lost 32 lbs.
I am 3 months post-op and have lost only 32 lbs. I have had some problems with scar tissue developed in my esphogus which cause me to vomit each time I ate. I have had my esphogus dilated twice and still have some problems with drinking water and eating. I also excercise 30-40 min a day 4 times a week. I know that not eating much will delay my weight loss, does anyone out there have any suggestions or advice they can give me, along with a daily menu to help me get on track to losing weight at a faster pace? Thanks! Twin — Twin R. (posted on July 24, 2003)

Hi Twin....
I really think you should address those issues with your surgeon. Losing
32lbs within 3 months is a low weight loss. I'm not what weight you were
when you started...but, I lost about 32 in the first 2 wks. I'm sure that
with the other trouble you've had with your esophagus has factored into you
not losing. Again, I would talk to your surgeon asap and have him hook you
up with a dietician who knows what they're talking about. Since you're not
able to retain the nutrients and food when you eat-you're body could be in
a starvation mode. Water is totally essential to you now.....

I agree that you should see your surgeon if you continue to have difficulty
eating and drinking. In cases like yours, drinking is usually easier than
eating. I would suggest that you seriously consider finding a liquid
protein supplement that you like and try to supplement as much as possible
so you are nutritionally sound. Hang in there - it does get better. Best
wishes!
