Question:
I was wondering what I could do for this?
Starting last night I experienced where my legs feel like they are asleep. It is a deep achy pain asleep. I have had tingling since surgery which my doctor said if it is still there at my next appointment he will order a electrolyte study. I was wondering if this is something else or what. I know that only my surgeon can answer it absolute but I was wondering if anyone had any ideas. It kept me up some of last night and now it started again and I really don't want to be up again tonight. Thanks — horserider0146 (posted on July 11, 2003)

You might have Sciatica... the pinching of the Sciatic nerve. The Sciatic
nerve is the main nerve exits from the spinal cord.. goes through holes in
the hipbone and runs down each leg. When it gets pinched or inflamed you
get the numbing / asleep feeling. I had it for many years post op and on
my outer right thigh. When I slept it would get worse because I sleep on
my back and it puts more pressure on the nerve. At times it would be so
achy sore that I couldn't sleep. You can try proping up your feet with a
few pillows - that helped me alot. Or you can have a blod clot which isn't
good... I got a blood clot after surgery and my left calf was painful to
touch.

Hmmm, don't know. But when my hands get tingly, then a few minutes later so
will my head, face, neck and chest. Then I know without a doubt my
potassium has bottomed out and I have to get to an ER fast to have
potassium by IV. But I've never had my legs go tingly, so it may not be
potassium. But if you are in the first year post op, you should have
regular blood tests for many things and especially potassium.
