Question:
HELP?
I am considering the Lapband surgery and I have to self pay. I want to know what people think of having this done in Mexico. It is much less money and they say they are more experienced because they have been doing it for 10 years and in US for only 2. I want to make the right choice but I don't want to choose based on price (it's not worth it). Any Suggestions? — kumuat (posted on July 10, 2003)

As someone who also self-paid, I absolutely agree that money is not the
biggest factor. I know nothing about Mexico, but with this link you can
view a chart that compares the results of various types of surgeries.

My biggest concern about doing surgery in a foreign country is the after
care. I am 7 months post-op and my surgeon is really the only doctor I
see. I know eventually I will start going to my PCP, but no one can handle
future setbacks better than the surgeon who did the operation and knows
whats going on inside. Just something to consider.

Go to the South of the Border forum that is shown on the left side of your

decision.
