Question:
Changing my employers policy
I work for a big law firm who's insurance (both PPO and HMO) have exclusions for "obesity (including morbid obesity)". I am thinking about going to the Benefits Dept. to see if we can get the exclusion changed. I think it would be better coming from a group of employees rather than just one. Changing jobs for me is not an option (I love my job and would never leave it!). Anyone have any suggestions on how to approach other employees to see if they would be interested in joining the "group"? I don't want to hurt anyones feelings..... — Kynziekate (posted on June 27, 2003)

I have a great PPO which did not have the exclusion, however, the insurance
company offered our benefits dept a lower rate if they would write in the
exclusion (they chose not to). If your benefits deopt asks for the
exclusion to be removed, benefits costs may increase for every employee
(they can't so it for just one person). If everyone is not morbidly obese,
you may have a problem convincing them to pay a higher rate. You may want
to check with your benefits dept before trying to get everyone on the
bandwagon.
