Question:
Platelet question?
I just had my first set of labs done (I am a month post op on 6/21) and Doctor wants me to have them done again because my platelets are low. Anyone else have this? Is this common? Can it be attributed to not enough B12? Kidney or Gall Bladder function? Any help would set my mind at ease. Thanks - Jill — J G. (posted on June 18, 2003)

A low platelet count can be a sign of anemia which means the body may be
low on Iron, loss of blood and menstrual cycles can also cause low platelet
levels. Your doctor is wise have the tests done so you can solve the
problem, I wouldn't lose to much sleep over it you'll be fine.

I had a bad experience with low platelets a few years back. I was diagnosed
with a disease after a routine school physical. After a few years of
treatments, chemo, and a spleenectomy my platelets are about 3 times higher
than the average person's. lol
I am not telling this to scare you, but just to ask you to be careful and
make sure that you have your doctor check up on that. Low platelets can be
caused by any number of things, but it is still important enough to
pursue.
Best wishes on your journey!!
