Question:
Did I dump?

I was doing some baking and usually never sneak tastes of what I am cooking, but today I did. I made a caramel sauce and coated a spoon with it and ate that. I also had a couple of chocolate chips (maybe 6). A few minutes later I felt horrible. My pouch feels like a hard ball, I've got the "runs" and I'm all sweaty, and am breathing like I just ran a 10 mile race. This happened about 20 minutes ago, it is starting to go away now. Is this dumping and how long does it usually take to go away? I am 7 1/2 months post op and have never felt this before. Any comments? Hugs, Kim S. Open RNY Nov. 4/02 (-127 lbs.)    — Kim S. Exactly a dump. That's exactly what it feels like. I even get that sometimes if I haven't eating for a few hours and have something with a lot of carbs. It is a good thing, teaches you not to try stuff like that again! I find I can almost time an "episode" for exactly 20 minutes. In the meant time, if you crave sweets, there are a lot of sugar free chocolates out there now, even Reese's and Hershey makes them, one or two usually can satisfy. Be careful though, the sugar-free candies are not fat free and can cause gas. Hope this helps you!

I do that alot now and I always have to go to sleep for a good 2 hours to get rid of it(best thing to do),I get VERY sleepy, I sweat, shake, have to run to go potty and come close to throwing up. I am almost 9mo. post-op and I'm starting to be able to eat some sugars and now im getting too brave:o) I can eat a donut hole, a small cookie, cake, and any cereal I want, but I can't even eat sphagetti without dumping or lots of SF products make me Ill....I just still don't get it, but im glad im limited or I would be in trouble lol! The dumping can last up to 90 minutes, so be careful and good luck!

Yeah...that's dumping. I don't get the pouch feeling like a hard ball, and very infrequently get the runs (I think that happened once with OJ)...but I do get the sweats, very tired, breathing heavy/rapid heart beat, overall "sick" feeling, and sometimes a headache. If it's a real bad one, I have to lay down for about a half hour. You would think with such an awful reaction, I would stop sneaking sweets...but it's not enough to stop me when I know I'm going to be here at home. I don't chance it when I'm away from home though. This is VERY BAD behavior and I don't recommend it to anyone. Hugs, Joy

...and before the bashers on the board come out of the woodwork...I was referring to MY behavior as being very bad, not anyone else's. Hugs, Joy

Yes that was dumping. I am three years post op and still dump not as bad as i use to but I still dump. Just the other day I had something that didn't sit right with me and I started to sweat profusely and shaking, I couldn't move. My boss saw me and asked me if I was ok. I told I was sick because I just had something I shouldn't eaten. I told her I had to let it pass. It took about 1/2 hour. Lesson learned for me. I was surprise to dump because I haven't dumped like that in a very long time.
