Question:
Approval with Morris Associates/Encore
I have Morris Associates/Encore insurance in Indiana. Does anyone have any knowledge on how hard it is to get approval for WLS with them? I have talked to the insurance company and they stated it has to be medically necessary. My PCP is going to write me a letter of medical necessity and I will have my surgeon write one after I meet with her. I just wondered if I should do anything else to help this get approved quickly. I would appreciate any help you could give me. — Tonya B. (posted on June 13, 2003)

Hi.... I had Morris Associates/encore through my husbands employer. The
insurance was actually a third party, if that makes any sense to you. I'm
not very good with all this insurance stuff!! I called them before sending
in for approval and they told me it had to be medically neccessary also. I
sent in all the paper work and they denied it stating they had an
exclusion. I appealed and lost again. So i picked up insurance through my
employer and they paid. I would just suggest to check your policy and not
take someone's word for it. I really had my hopes up and then they came
crashing down with that denial! Good luck to you

I had Morris Associates. My husband works in Middlebury Ind. They are a
company owned insurance co. They approved my WLS surgery the first time
and paid very well. I had to have a referral letter from my family doc. I
had a pscy exam, and they had me write a letter of my different weight loss
attempts. But I had no problems, but I know different companys have
different policies. Hope this helps a little. Good Luck.. My surgery was
2 1/2 yrs ago.
