Question:
I need to know what blood looks like coming back up.

I thought I read on here a few weeks back that the blood looks like it is dried? I have been nautious for about three weeks with diarhea. I am now throwing up clear with what looks to be dry blood. Anyone experience this? I have tried everything to get over this, but it refuses to go away. I have to go every hour it seems and it is violent. Please, excuse the grossness of this post. I am getting really worried.    — Red T. (posted on June 1, 2003)

You need to call your doc or surgeon ASAP!!! Blood can appear in different ways. Something that looks like "coffee grounds" is a more typical appearance, but blood can also appear dark and tar-like or in something like what you describe. ***Bleeding in the gastric system is very dangerous.. even more so for us. Considering the time you have been feeling ill and the amount of vomiting and diarrhea you've describe I would say you need to been seen faster than soon. Maybe even go to the ER. Absolutely call your doc. Primary care or surgeon...either one, but you need to be seen.

Linda G...I'm glad to hear you are doing better. I was worried about you. Red T...I would do as the previous posters advised. It is important that you either speak to your surgeon immediately or go straight to the hospital.

Oringinal poster.... I wanted to thank you all. I did go to the hospital last night. They gave me three bags of fluids and some meds for nausea. They ran some blood work. Everything came back negative, and the doc sent me home. I am still worried though. Should they have done any x-rays or an upper gi? I will see my surgeon in a few days and ask him. Thanks again for answering so quickly.
