Question:
shaving vs waxing
Ladies pleas help me out before i have open RNY on june 2nd i do plan to have a pedicure to pretty up the toes before the big day but my question is this is: waxing better than shaving in terms of hair growing back slower? I dont think ill be able to shave my legs after the surgery and probably wont care but i was thinking if waxing had slower hair regrowth i would try it so if anyone knows please let me know thanks for your help — marcelle1070 (posted on May 23, 2003)

Hi, I am a real fan of waxing now. I had my legs done 4 weeks ago and have
very little regrowth...I had to wait a while and let the hair grow to a
certain length before they could wax it...but it was totally worth it...
I have had my facial hair waxed for years...and then started doing my
forearms....but put off doing the legs until recently. I am sold on this
now, believe me!! Also, some people say it is painful around the bikini
line...it wasn't bad to me. They also recommend that you take an advil or
something ahead of time. Good luck!

Hi, I just shaved my legs. I also shaved my bikini line too. I just had
brazillian waxing done and I loved it. No more shaving for me. It DID
hurt but was not as bad as I thought. Good luck.

Hi Rhonda, I don't know about the legs, but I have waxed my eyebrows for
almost 10 years now and swear by it! I can go 2-3 weeks w/o needing it
again. I've never done my legs before as it can get a little pricey, but if
I had a special reason to, I would. Hair on me grows back so fast, so it'd
be worth it to me. And I also didn't shave for a while post-op b/ I
couldn't obviously, but the hair got to be itchy, so it may be worth your
while. Oh...you could also try NAIR, the cream that just takes the hair
off. That lasts a little while longer than shaving as well. Goodluck to you
:-)

Wax 'em!! I just had my underarms done today (been doing it for years) and,
yeah, it's not the most pleasant experience but it beats shaving. Same goes
for my legs and I usually go about a month between visits. I have also used
the Nair 3-in-1 (has a moisturizer, hair remover and exfoliator) for my
legs-- just as good as waxing and less expensive, too. Good idea on the
pedi--I did the same thing. I think my mantra was: I wanna look good on the
operating table! Good luck on your surgery-- you will love your new life!

Waxing definitely works longer because you are pulling the hair out by the
root. When you shave you are cutting if off at the skin, so it appears
above the skin sooner. In regard to the pedicure. Check with your
facility first! Most hospitals (though not all), will not allow colored
fingernail polish on the big toes. I had a pedicure before my surgery and
was disappointed to have to remove the toe nail polish the morning of
surgery.
