Question:
I need to know if I should be worried about pain in lower back?

For four days I have had severe diarhea and this dull ache in my lower back. Does this sound normal? I have eaten about ten immodium advanced in two days and it has not made one bit of difference. I feel like I did when I had to drink the fleets Phoso. I am really starting to get scared. I called my surgeon's office and they are out to lunch. Any advice?    — Red T. (posted on May 1, 2003)

I would call your PCP and get an appointment ASAP. The low back pain and diarhea may or may not not be related. Low back pain can indicated a kidney infection or kidney stone. You should be evaluated right away. In the mean time, drink LOTS of water to prevent dehydration due to the diarhea and to help with any kidney problems you may be having.
