Question:
When did you resize your rings?

I havent seen this question before, and hubby told me I should ask on here. How long did you wait to re-size your wedding rings? I don't want to not wear them, but I also don't want to get them done too soon. ( I'm still pre=op, my surgery was to be today, but got postponed )I was thinking when they start getting too big to wear, I'd get a really nice chain to put them on until I get them re-sized. Any other options out ther??? ty :-)    — KellyJeanB (posted on April 1, 2003)

I got my rings re-sized initially when it I was about 5 months out. I had lost about 120 pounds and they were just getting too big. Well, now I've lost another 40 pounds (and still losing) and I probably should get them re-sized again, but each resizing weakens the ring. As far as my wedding ring, I can *just* fit into my original wedding ring from 18 years ago (it's a little light) - so with another 15-20 pounds, I will be able to wear that comfortably. That leaves my other ring - a sapphire and diamond chip ring on my right hand. I'll probably hold off resizing that one until I am 10 pounds or less away from goal. There are ring guards that can help with making rings smaller w/o resizing them - talk to your jeweler...JR

I'm 20 months post and down 150lbs. My rings fit fine when I was heavier but really got loose about 6 months post. I got ring guards put on them and that is still how I wear them. I think I'm going to try to loose another 10lbs and maintain it for a half yr or so before I get them re-sized.

Hey Kelly Jean! I'm approaching the 5-month post-op mark and my rings have been too large since about 1.5 months out. I know for me, my ring size has decreased from a 7 to a size 5 and I still have about 55 to 60 pounds to go until goal. I haven't resized any of my jewelry yet (actually back to wearing my high school class ring instead of my wedding band). My class ring is the smallest ring I own so when I get scared of losing it, I guess I'll just be taking them off completely and wait until my loss stabilizes before I resize anything! The chain is a great idea on keeping your wedding set close to heart. Good Luck!

I had surgery on 12/6/01 and I wore a size 10 ring. I got my engagement ring resized in early October 2002, 10 months later for my wedding to a size 7, after losing about 170 lbs.

I had them re-sized at three months, then again at six months, and now they are too big again at 10 months!!!

After the first month bought a small plain gold band and used it as a ring gruard. After 3 months, I bought another smaller yet and used it as a ring guard. When the ring guards started getting so small that they slipped under the wedding band, I put the wedding band in my jewelry box. I am 18 months post and just had my rings sized. I am really married again.

I am 4 monthe post op and have lost 70 lbs. I thought I would have to put away my rings because of them getting too loose but I found some really cool plastic ring resizers at walmart. They come in many sizes and are cheap. Now I can wear all my pretty rings and my fingers dont look like sausages. I will resize them when the weightloss stabalizes.

Hi, I did not resize my rings until after one year out of surgery. I went from a size 9.5 to 4.5! Amazing! So I would suggest getting a temporary ring guard. They cost a couple of bucks just used that until you reach your goal weight. GOOD LUCK!
