Question:
Can protein powder be mixed ahead of time?
I've been mixing "Milk & Egg Protein" powder with yougert & protein drink several hours before I use it and freezing it or storing in the fridge. Is this ok? Or does the protein powder loose it's effectiveness/protein etc if not consumed immediately? — Debi B. (posted on March 17, 2003)

Putting it in the fridge is OK, freezing it I am not so sure about.

I think it may depend on what brand/kind it is. I know that Michelle
Curran (vitalady) has posted that making it up ahead of time is not a good
idea. Like I said it may have to something to do with whether it's whey,
soy or some other kind of protein. You might want to send her an email and
see what she says. She has a profile here or you can go to

I, personally, do not mix protein ahead. I use primarily whey. I think of
it like meat. You have to watch for bacteria after a short time. You get
a little lmore latitiude with eat because it's not digested, but the good
proteins have already started being digested (to make a long story short).
I just don't do it. At exactly how many hours or minutes after making it
"wet" it changes, I have no idea, but it DOES gather bacteria,
and I'm not going there.
