Question:
STATE MANDATED PLAN--has anyone been approved for WLS on Idaho Blue Cross Standard?
I wasn't eligible for a premium individual plan, so they offered me the state mandated basic, standard, cat. A&B. Weight loss surgery and morbid obesity are not listed in my exclusions. Weight reduction treatments are. After the nightmare I went through with Regence, I'm afraid to get my hopes up. Thanks, and have a great day! Suzi — sm S. (posted on March 15, 2003)

Unless its changed in the last year, no they don't cover it. Almost no
plans they have do here in Idaho. I found one individual plan but they
also refused to allow me access to that. They offered me the high risk
pool. I checked it out and they did not cover WLS at all, I even called
the company to verify. They don't make an exception between obese &
morbidly obese as you here so many people on here mentioning and their
exclusion as far as I could tell looked pretty airtight. I don't still
have my papers, sorry about that, but it did state it specifically. I think
the exclusion was listed in the primary pamplet type information they give
out. I think it was the one that folded out, listed the various high risk
pool plans, their coverages, limits, duductables, etc. I clearly remember
highlighting the exclusion. If you find they've changed their exclusions
& are actually willing to cover it please let me know.
