Question:
OK ... Silly question about taking vitamins ...
This may be silly, but I am really confused. We are not allowed to eat and drink at the same time. So, how do you swallow the vitamins that need to be taken with food if you cannot drink while you're eating? Thanks, Lisa — Lisa D. (posted on March 7, 2003)

I could not swallow any pills with water for a long time. I started using
SF Jello, then sometimes applesauce and now I use yogurt to get them down,
even though I can now swallow the smaller ones with water. I take a
spoonful of yogurt, pop the pill(s) in and swallow it all at once.

Hey Lisa-
First of all, congrats on your surgery-I am assuming you have had it
already if you are concerned about the vitamins. Anyway, you can take your
vitamins with liquids. The big thing is you don't want to drink with your
meals because it takes up room in your stomach that you need for food. If
you push it, you could stretch your new stomach too much. Good luck and be
sure you take them - I missed a few days and it happened to be near the
time of a blood test and they could tell, so it does make a big difference.

I drink right up to the first bite of solid food, personally. Those were my
instructions. BUT I've never been able to take pills with water, since I
was a kid. I take them like Gar, but I use any food on mmy plate. I chew
up a bite, then send the vites/meds down in the bite. Been doing it for
years.

I usually do what Michelle does, drink up until I eat, then make sure I
don't drink anything for atleast 30 minutes after my meal. So that way,
you can drink with your vitamin and THEN eat. Or while you are eating take
the pill(s) with a few sips of water. Just make sure it is only an ounce or
two, that should be okay. Goodluck to you!

Here's another vote for just taking the pill or capsule with a bite of
food, usually a soft food (and well-chewed, of course).
