Question:
3 Months post op- Major musle cramps-
At 3 months post-op I began experiencing sporatic muscle cramping -like charlie horses all over my body, but especially in my calves and feet. I am wondering- is anyone else is having this experience and if anyone knows why or what to do. I DO have an appointment w/ my Dr. and just had blood work done to figure it out, but I'm hoping others may know something. Thanks for your help. — LMCLILLY (posted on March 7, 2003)

Could be your potassium level is low. This used to happen to me, mostly in
my legs as a pre-op when I was low on potassium. I ended up taking a
supplement as per my docs orders and it stopped.

Lack of potassium, lack of calcium, or dehydration could be the culprit.
For potassium, try orange juice and make sure you are taking your multivit
with iron. For calcium, make sure you are taking your calcium (citrate if
you are RNY). Try to drink more water and also you could eat some watery
fruits (melon, strawberries, citrus, etc.) I had that too and my problem
turned out to be potassium. I had skipped my multivit for a few days. MAN,
I won't do that again! It hurts! Good luck and ask your dr just to be on
the safe side.
