Question:
Best way to lose maximum weight on Atkins for the next two weeks??

My surgeon had me start Atkins today to help shrink the size of my liver and make surgery easier. I need helpful hints to lose the maximum weight in the next two weeks. (Besides just drinking water and walking) I am at 400lbs currently and have surgery on March 7. Ann in TX    — Ann B. (posted on February 22, 2003)

Well I loved the atkins I did allot of the protien shakes and bars stay away from the the fried bacon and prk products yes its high in protien and yes you will be forever going to the restroom. It not very healthy. But the shakes abd bars are great and you really will feel full fast on that.

Someone borrowed my book and didn't return it, so from memory I think its 15 carbs, 0 sugar a day. Drink LOTS of water and don't drink any carbonated bev's. I think its one of the best diets for short term weight loss. I lost 1 pound a day on Atkins and didn't feel deprived. Remember, just 2 weeks....YOU CAN DO IT! Good Luck!

Ann, I have also been on the Atkins diet to reduce the size of my fatty liver. This is my 11th day. The first couple of days are torture, just eat as much carb free foods as you can. Meats, cheese, eggs, diet jello etc. are good until you enter ketosis. Get the ketostix from Walmart- they are a lot cheaper there. Walmart also sells Atkins shakes, bars, etc. They even have low-carb chips! They aren't cheap, but for two weeks it won't be too bad. If you're like me, and you can't afford all the fancy stuff, just stick with the meats--not processed lunch meats or hot dogs, as those carbs add up fast. The jello is a real pick-me-up, so keep some handy. My pcp said that your liver can get knicked, or accidentally stapled, so it's very important to stick with it until surgery. I was 298 on my first day and now weigh 287. If you need help, I am only an e-mail away. BTW I visit Austin most summers and I just love it there. Annmarie

Ann B. - the induction phase calls for no more than 20 carbs per day - also, this week's Woman's World magazine (at the check out counter just about anywhere)is devoted to low cost ways to stay with Atkins and has some pretty decent recipes. Also, drink lots and lots of water. I cure my sweet tooth with sf jello.

Hi Ann, I have been on the Atkins diet for almost 3 weeks now and I have lost almost 15lbs. The best thing I can tell you is, try to keep your protien intake high and also try to eat some sort of fat with each meal...cheese, mayo, real butter, etc. And of course, drink lots of water....64-80oz. each day. Keep your carbs. as far under 20g per day as you can. Deffinately get some s/f jello...good stuff. Try it with 2Tbs. of heavy cream....very good stuff. Have fun with it...it does work. Good luck
