Question:
Has anyone who was selfpay been able to get catastrophic coverage?
I am going to have to self pay. Exclusion in my insurance coverage, but would like to take out a catastrophic insurance plan to cover any complications that may be over like $25,0000. I was wondering if anyone knew of such a plan that would cover a preexisting condition "morbid obesity" — Cindy M. (posted on February 21, 2003)

You would really need to check with the insurance carrier that underwrites
the plan. Most plan do have some type of pre-ex exclusion and pre-ex
generally means any illness/condition that you've received medical advice,
treatment, taken medication form - etc. Morbid obesity is definately
considered an illness/condition. I would check closely with the carrier
and ask questions. Also, rules and regulations that govern limitations on
pre-exsisting conditions, don't always apply to catastrophic policies - so
ask lots of questions!
