Question:
Sleep study results report 207 apnea incidences - how bad is that?
I got my PCP's office nurse to read my sleep study results to me - the reports said I had a significant number of apneas, didn't matter what position I slept in, and had a final total of 207 apneas. I slept only 5-6 hours while there, and have a CPAP titration scheduled. I'm just curious - does 207 seem mild? Moderate? It doesn't sound severe to me, but I didn't even hear of sleep apnea until I started researching WLS, so I'm not a great judge...Thanks for all responses! — vittycat (posted on January 31, 2003)

I had 267 "episodes" and they considered it "severe"
sleep apnea. My cpap was set on 8. By the way, I no longer us it. Good
luck

I worked in a sleep lab for 13 years. Their criteria for severe apnea was
over 40 events/hour of sleep. Five hours of sleep with 207 events would
give you 41.4 events per hour. The amount of oxygen desaturation
associated with the events also determines the level of severity. Your
study suggests you definitely need to be on CPAP.

I was 125 ecents per hour, CPAP was at 15. Of course, it's collecting dust
now! Yippee!

I had over 180 sleep interuptions and they told me I had a severe case of
apnea. The good news is that several months after the surgery I put the
machine in the closet where it remains today. I will definitely get better
for you. Good luck.

Krisa, You are SO lucky to have had doctors that thought it important to
test and treat you for sleep apnea prior to your surgery. If my friend,
Ginger Brewster had doctors that believed in that she would be alive today.
Her story is on the memorial page of this website. Best of Luck to you
for your surgery and in your weight loss journey!
