Question:
I just found out today I have a hernia, what do I do next?
I am 5mos post have lost 137lbs and I'm45-50 pds from my goal weight. I have this melon bulge right below my breasts an umbilical hernia. When should I get this repaired and will my insurance co. consider paying for a TT at the same time? Will the hernia help get my TT approved? Thanks for your help! Beth — Elizabeth C. Hi Beth. I've also got a hernia that I'm making arrangements to have
repaired. Depending on the size, type and location of your hernia, you may
need to get it taken care of immediately. Your insurance company may cover
your tummy tuck - it depends on your carrier. Call and ask them. The best
thing about having the TT and hernia done at the same time is simply that
it is one surgery instead of 2, one recovery time instead of 2 and one
period of missed work instead of 2. Also, if you have to pay for the TT
yourself, you can save money by taking advantage of the insurance company
paying for the anesthesia for the hernia. I don't think your hernia will
make getting the TT approval any easier. It's just a good sales point to
the insurance company that getting them both done at the same time will
save them some money too. Best of luck.
