Question:
Will gulping water stretch our my stomach?

In my post-operative guidelines booklet it says not to gulp water. Why? I am 13 days post-op and can take a big drink of water(2 swallows for 1`mouthfull) will this stretch my pouch? Could I cause a leak by doing this or eating until I am full this early post-op?    — Jennifer T. (posted on January 18, 2003)

Personally, I wouldn't worry too much about it unless it causes you pain or discomfort. Basically just listen to your body and your new tummy. I've always been a gulper more than a sipper. Only time it bothers me is when it's ice cold. Good Luck to you! - Anna LAP RNY 7/3/02 -106lbs.

It can cause some people to throw up if they gulp it to fast. It won't hurt you though. The more water you can get in the better.

I asked my surgeon if I could strech my pouch with water and he said "no" Althought I wouldn't gulp water, sip slowly

OK - now i'm convinced that I am abnormal... am I the only one that has trouble with room temperature water? I just can't drink it. My water has to be ice cold to be tolerable.

I cannot drink anything room temp. Hot or ice cold.
