Question:
Did I ruin my progress???
I am just over 2 months post-op down 45 lbs. Last night I ate some carmel popcorn w/peanuts (Fiddle Faddle). I ate about a handful. I didn't dump, but I was nausous(sp) most of the night. I even tried to throw-up, but I couldn't. I feel SO HORRIBLE. I have been really good to eat what I should since sugery. How do I get over the guilt? What can I do to prevent it from happening in the future? I welcome all advise to feel better about this...... Thanks! — Nan G. (posted on January 18, 2003)

the nausea, and the feeling horrible...thats dumping. You get over the
guilt by forgiving your self...and as Scarlet would say..."tomorrow is
another day". Your doing great./

The journey which you are taking is not always a smoth one. Just look at
this as a bump in the road. EVERYONE has done similar things. Everything
will be fine. Good Lux

There is nothing wrong with having some carmel popcorn with peanuts. And
your feeling guilty over a handful?? You have to stop looking at having a
treat every now and then as "ruining your progress". How do you
think normal thin people eat? There is nothing to feel guilty about. Now
if you were stuffing yourself 3 times a day with Fiddle Faddle every day,
then I'd say we have a problem. You can't prevent it from happening in the
future and why would you?? Even Carnie Wilson says she has dessert all the
time-she orders a delicious dessert, has two bites (ahem, the handful ring
any bells?) and then stops. Go easy on yourself and your journey will be
alot less stress free.

hi there :) congrats on your weightloss! :) im with the other posters. we
all need to feel a sense of normalcy and not feel depribed of everything
all the time. you probably did dump if it made you nausiated. just remember
moderation and try not to let it become an every day or several times a day
occurance and you will do just fine! best of luck to you. forgive yourself.

I call these learning experiences. Whenever I choose to eat the wrong
thing and it makes me sick, I learn not to do it anymore. You paid the
price, so let it go. :)

Well let me tell you a little story that might help lol...My oldest is in
Girl scouts and for thoose of us that know its COOKIE TIME...well my
grandmother in law came over the other day and saw me haveing some milk and
cookies with my kids and she was like " dont you feel guilty eatting
that after putting everybody through this surgery" well i looked at
her and grinned i said " No i dont because befor my surgery i could
and offten did sit and eat a whole box of GS cookies at a time. That i
felt guilty about...Now i can sit down with my kids and eat 2 cookies
dipped in milk its a treat that i enjoy and its not the whole box. Thanks
to my surgery i can do that and not feel bad." Now befor anybody yells
at me lol...i Dont eat them every day infact have only eatten them that
once and i am luck (or cursed depending on how you look at it) i dont dump.
So you could look at it that way befor your surgery you might have
(probably would have) eatten half or more of the box and not batted a
eye....this time you ate a handful and payed the price for it so proably
wont do it again. CONGRATS ON THE WEIGHT LOSS AND STOP FEELING GUILTY.

If you did, we all did the same at one time or another! I too love those
Fiddle Faddles (the Toffee one is the best). I'm sad to say that over the
last 20 months I went from being able to tolerate 12 grams of sugar to God
knows how much. :( However, I still can't take over one small handfull of
FF. I miss it. But I will have a handfull once in awhile. It's only been
about three times over almost two years. (Wish I could say that about other
sweets). When you want a treat, eat it and let it go.... if something is
forbidden I want it all the more. lol

Don't feel guilty! It may have been the first time, but I'm sure it won't
be the last! You live and learn!
