Question:
If you have nail fungus will surgery be postponed?
I have a nail infection(or fungus)in 2 fingernails, I have had these for quite some time. They will not clear up. Will this prevent me from having surgery? I saw where someone said their surgery was postponed due to infection in the skin fold so I just wondered. Thanks for answering. — Melanie B. (posted on January 14, 2003)

Nail fungus should not postpone surgery. An infection in the skin fold
could allow harmful bacteria to enter the surgical wound, so surgery cannot
be performed on someone with a skin infection near the surgical site. Nail
fungus would not be located near the surgery site, and the fungus that
causes a nail infection would not transfer easily to the surgical wound.
Good luck with your upcoming surgery.
