Question:
Eating fresh oysters and mussels at 10 weeks post op

Hi to my AMOS friends! I am planning a romantic dinner for my hubby and I in a few days. He's been gone away working since Dec. 28th. I was wondering if it is okay to eat fresh oysters on a half shell and mussels. I am ten weeks post op and tolerate most foods very well, but am concerned about the shellfish, it might be rubbery or I might not be able to chew it enough. Any post ops out there indulge in yummy seafood? How does it sit in your pouch? If I don't feel I can eat it, I'll have to find something else for myself to eat that night. Thanks for the advice! Kim, I have been eating sheel fish since I was 2 months post-op. I have only eaten shrimp & scallopes, don't eat oysters or mussels! I would say you are probably fine! P.S. I live on Shrimp!

Oysters were on my NO-NO list until 6 months. To hard on your new stomach. How far out are you? You state 10 weeks post in your question, but then by your name it has 04/02.

Kim, everyone is different, but here's my story. I love shrimp and scallops and eat them quite often, but raw shellfish on the half shell is something I never really had any desire to try. But, last week I was a new raw bar here and got coaxed into slurping up an oyster that way. I actually enjoyed it. HOWEVER, even at 11 months post-op, I realized that I can't eat something I don't chew first.

I had no problem with mussels after a couple of months. They were very tender and actually gave me no problem. Oysters I would wait a little longer as they are rubbery. At two months you still need to be careful. Just for the record, romance does not have to center around food.

I guess i must be the odd ball becuase i have been unable to tolerate any seafood since my surgery. I am allmost 4 months post-op. My advise would be if it is at all possiable to try the foods a few days befor hand to see if you can tolerate them. and be sure to have something else on hand jsut in case. Nothing would screw up a romantic night like having to throw up.
