Question:
Anyone had their WLS proctored by another Dr.
Just wondering if anyone had a surgeon perform their surgery (lap or open RNY)as one of his very first. And was this surgeon (hopefully) proctored by another, prominant experienced surgeon? How was your experience? For those who don't know what "to proctor" means it is when another surgeon "teaches" another surgeon who hasn't done a certain kind of surgery (even though they may have years of exp. doing other surgeries). I had a consult with a really nice, compassionate, very exp. lap and GI surgeon and am pretty close to deciding on him (with the proctor right at his side, of course). If so, can you tell me your experiences? — lindadougherty (posted on January 8, 2003)

Linda, Hi, my friend and I both had the same surgeon, actually we met
through our dietician. But anyways, we were both in his mid twenties,
meaning I was like around his 25th WLS patient. He is a stomach surgeon, I
trusted him very much. He was GREAT, we didnt have to prep before surgery
(empty bowels), we did have to stop eating and drinking at midnight before
our surgery. No stitches or staples on the outside, only steri strips, all
stitches were inside, no tubes or drains. He's a newer surgeon. If I ever
have to have stomach surgery for any reason I wont hesitate going back to
him. Im actually not sure if there was a proctor in with him or not, but I
remember my friend had mentioned that he was suppose to have one in when
she had hers done,, but Im also not sure that he was there during hers or
not. Good luck to you on your journey towards WLS. *open RNY 11/14/02*
