Question:
Has anyones body rejected the staples? What kind of metal is it?
I just thought about this question. After my Ex left me I kinda went on a wild and crazy binge. I got my nipples pierced. LOL please don't ask me what I was thinking...anyhow my body rejected the ring that was in...and started to well I'll spare you the details. It could have been from many things, infection or the fact that piercings we not meant to go there...etc..but what if it was from the metal..could this happen with wls?? Any info or thoughts would be great. Thanks — luckyflowers (posted on January 4, 2003)

I did, have a reaction to the staples. My skin was quite red, with a
stingy, burning sensation. I ended up with steri strips for a bit, but it
seemed like they were flamed up quite a bit even after they were removed...

I believe that the staples are titanium.

I got a good chuckle on your body piercing! Must have been a heck of a
divorce!<p>The internal staples that make the pouch and close off the
residual stomach are titanium as far as I know. It is the same material as
joint replacements etc. I've not heard of anyone rejecting the material
used in joint replacements. The staples used to close your incision might
be something else, I'm not sure. So if you have problems with your
incision staples they are probably not titanium. I would not worry about
the internal staples, but please discuss with your surgeon so you are
comfortable. You don't want to be worrying about that if there is no need.
