Question:
How long are you supposed to take to drink your protein drink?
Hi I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday. I am trying protein supplements (pre-op) to go ahead and purchase a few for when I get home. I found one I like but it takes about a half hour to finish it taste good but it has a twangy taste though that quenches my thirst. Will it be ok to take longer once I am post- op? — lisab. It's usually best to use predigested whey protein within a 30-45 minute
time frame. After this, the protein tends to break down and not be as
effective. We don't absorb more than 30 grams at once time and this may be
too much to try to drink at one time in the beginning after surgery. I'm
still pre-op, but the advice I was given was to drink "half"
servings such as 4oz. of water to 15 grams of protein powder, and work your
way up to more when you can. Hope this helps.

Don't get too attached to any protein supplements pre-op. Your taste buds
change and what you like today, you may not like post-op. As for how long
it takes to drink, early post-op, I used the Isopure zero carb drinks,
which came in 20 oz glass bottles and looked like Koolaid with flavors like
blue rasberry and apple melon. I poured that over ice and added some water
and sipped on it all day long.
