Question:
weight loss.....okay i need to know this
Can others tell me if you were in the same situation as I am. I had surgery on Oct 2, 2002 I have lost 48 pounds, but feel like im going to be one of the people who will not lose the weight. If you have been there and did lose the weight please let me know. I really want to be a winner, but im feeling like such a failure right now. The scale has not moved since Nov 25th. If you did lose after thinking you were a failure please tell me your story. Thanks so much. — Schatzie1 (posted on December 20, 2002)

I thought that I was going to fail after wls too. I think I was so negative
because I've tried so many weight loss methods with no results. I still
can't believe that I've now lost 125 pounds in seven months. Try to think
positive. Good Luck and Happy Holidays.

It is very natural for obese people who have been on one diet after another
to feel like this one is going to fail. You are just at a plateau that
everyone goes through. The next 50 pounds are the ones that others will
notice the most. All of a sudden you will realize that you are the winner
because you are actually a "loser". Stay off the scale for four
weeks. I know it is hard, but it is the best way to get through a plateau.
When you do weigh then you will see a big drop. Good Luck!

My WLS was Oct 5 (1994). By Christmas, I'd lost 42#. By the following
Christmas, I'd lost 150 (well a bit more, but I stabilized with 150 lost).
So, there ya go. If you want to compare, that's pretty close. I'm
5'1", was 262 to start

Hang in there. Those bleeping plautos are VERY discouraging but they DO
pass. As someone said, DON'T weigh everyday. In my case, I've had water
retention since a botched surgery in 1993. I can put on 8 pounds of water
in two days if I miss my pills! And you, as a woman, have all those
hormones hitting you that at times will make you gain water weight. Yes I
know, not for three weeks. ;) But I found that when I finally just told
myself to "relax and weight loss will come when it comes, and IF it
comes" that often that let it start again. You see, if we are doing
what we are supposed to be doing, then there is nothing else we can do!
Relax, don't worry, and your body will finally start losing again when it
decides it wants too. As for me, it does'nt look as if I'm going to reach
goal, as I'm at 84.5% of excess body weight off (my surgeon says 70% is
normal). So I'm still in the OVERWEIGHT BMI. I'm discouraged, yet pleased
that I've come this far. I'm still trying to lose, but more important not
to gain. I see all these people who are at NORMAL range of BMI... and I
must say I'm very disappointed that it looks like I never will never get
there now (19.5 months post op now with 30 pounds of 190 to go). But look
at it this way, IF we can keep whatever we lost OFF... then we are winners
even if we can't get to our desired weight.

Remember to Drink Drink Drink, and make sure you are getting your protein
in, if you are doing all of that, the weight will come off. Also, one other
thing that I see people doing early out is eating the same foods over and
over, day after day. IF that happens to be you, try changing around your
foods some so that you are getting more variety, sometimes that really
helps get you over a pateau also. Good luck, you will do great!! An
remember, 48 pounds in three months is nothing to sneeze at!! I could not
have lost that pre op, could you??

I had surgery on Oct. 9th and have lost 45 lbs. I get disappointed at times
because I think it should come off faster. I am not ready to give up on it
yet, and I also agree stay off the scales for awhile, because they only
make you disappointed.

I had surgery 10-3-01 I lost 50 lbs by christmas, and 125 by the next.
Hang in there. You are doing fine. This surgery isnt going to make the
weight magically dissapear over night, but believe me.....it will come off.
Give it time.

I don't know how tall you are,or how much you needed to loose, but I am
4'11" and was 210, a year ago. I am now 148. my goal is 115. My
scale seems to move every 3-4 months and boom another 5 #'s gone! I can
say that I'm not really trying too hard, I eat everything, but only a bite
or so. Try to drink but can not drink 64 oz. But I am sooooo happy to be
where I am!!!! I am size 12 pants and M
top. Never thought I'd see it hang in there!! maybe you're a slow looser
like me, but a looser nevertheless!! Good Luck
